Why We Stand
We reject violence as a response to violence. Threats of military interventions and using weapons of war should not be normal solutions for settling differences and conflicts. We, Women in Black Against War - New York, stand in silent vigil to protest war, rape, ethnic cleansing and human rights abuses all over the world. We are silent because words cannot express the tragedy that wars and hatred bring.
Our silence is visible. We invite women to stand with us and reflect upon the men, women and children who have been killed, tortured and raped in war. We invite women to remember loved ones who have disappeared and those who have had their communities destroyed.
We wear black as a symbol of sorrow for all victims of war, for the destruction of people, nature and the fabric of life.
We embrace the use of peaceful conflict resolution.
